When I started the Executive MBA at the University of Strathclyde in the UAE, I was sceptical about the idea that it would “change my mindset.” It felt like a cliché rather than a real outcome.

A year and a half later, I can confidently say I was wrong.

The change was gradual, but very practical. In the early stages of the programme, discussions often felt complex and difficult to fully navigate. Over time, I noticed a clear shift in how I approached problems: I began structuring them more clearly, stepping back from day-to-day operational detail, and viewing them from a broader, more global and strategic perspective.

This shift is something I now apply directly in my professional role, particularly when dealing with long-term strategic decisions rather than immediate operational pressures.

What became increasingly clear is that the Strathclyde MBA is designed to build this capability step by step. The learning experience evolves in a way that allows you to connect different modules rather than treating them in isolation. For example, I found myself applying frameworks and techniques from the Operations and Project Management course across other areas of study, almost “engineering” how I approach analysis, prioritisation, and decision-making in subsequent modules.

Modules such as Finance, Microeconomics, and Applied Strategic Management reinforced this development further. They pushed me to think more analytically, challenge assumptions more consistently, and move beyond description towards deeper critique and evaluation.

One of the most valuable aspects of the experience is that your perspective does not remain static. I began the MBA with a very specific learning focus in mind, but I am finishing it with a different and more relevant direction. That evolution in thinking, and in how I apply strategy in practice, is the most tangible outcome of the programme for me.

Looking back, the most significant change has not been a single moment or breakthrough, but a steady transformation in how I interpret complexity, connect ideas, and make decisions. That shift is what I now consider the real value of the Strathclyde MBA.
